To know how we should train our children, let’s look at the word “CHILD”:

C stands for Christ.  We must teach and train our children in a Christ-like manner; to be as Christ was when He trained His disciples.

H stands for holiness.  We must teach our children to be holy.  Isaiah 35:8 says a highway shall be there and a way, and the way will be called the way of holiness.  In the book of Leviticus, God says “Be ye holy for I am holy” saith the Lord.

I stands for instructions.  To teach and train our children in the ways of God, we must teach and train them with biblical instructions.  We should always go to the word of God when dealing with problems with our children.  The Bible tells us from a child, Timothy was taught the scriptures; he was instructed from the word.

L stands for love.  We must love our children enough to teach them about Christ and to tell them the truth in every circumstance.  We must love our children enough to tell the truth in every situation.  The scripture teaches us that if we do anything without love, we have done nothing.  That includes training our children.

D stands for discipline.  While training our children in the ways of God, we should love them enough to discipline them.  We should not let them get away with everything.  “He that spare his rod hateth his son” (Proverbs 13:24).  “Chasten thy son while there is still hope” (Proverbs 19:18).  “Withhold not correction from thy child, for if you beatest him with the rod he shall not die.”  These are our responsibilities as a parent.

What are the children’s responsibilities in all this?

Proverbs 1:8  My son, hear the instructions of thy father, and forsake not the law of thy mother.

Proverbs 4:1  Hear, ye children, the instructions of a father and attend to know understanding.

Ephesians 6:1  Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right. (Period!)

1)  God called Abraham and planned to build a great nation from him.  The nation would eventually be called Israel, or the children of Israel.  God also called this nation a kingdom of Priests.  God's aim was to dwell among this nation so all other people could get to know Him, Jehovah, the One True and Living God.

This is the same plan God has for your life.  He called you and made you who you are so He could dwell within you.  His aim is to reveal Himself to others through you.  God did not call you, save you and put Himself in you just for you to go to heaven.  God wants you to help many people along the way to get into heaven.  In order to draw people to God, you must live the kind of life that brings glory and honor to God.

2)  God planned to bless Abraham and make his name great.  Every plan God has for you, every purpose God has for you, includes His blessings for your life.  God will not ask you to do something and not bless you by or with what He asked you to do.  Not only that, but God will go beyond that which He planned for you in order to bless you.  He will cause men to give into your bossom.  (Luke 6:38)

God told Noah to build an ark and God blessed Noah and his family in the ark.  God told Adam to dress and keep the garden and God blessed Adam in the garden.

God's plans for His people always include His blessing.

3)  God planned for Abraham to be a blessing.  "So they which be of faith are blessed with faithful Abraham."  (Galatians 3:9)

"And if ye be Christ's then are ye Abraham's seed and heirs according to the promise."  (Galatians 3:29)

God wants all of His children to get to the place of being a blessing.  We cannot be a blessing if we are not receiving God's blessing.  To receive God's blessing, we have to...
